Research on the Total Number of Web Sites Globally
According to Martin Armstrong, writing for Statista:
“By 1994, there were close to 3,000 sites, one of which was a fledgling Yahoo! which, originally called ‘Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web’, started its online life as a Web directory. By the time Google came onto the scene there were over two million websites. As our infographic shows, today there are 1.71 billion, and looking at Internet Live Stats’ counter, despite being lower than 2017’s 1.76 billion, this figure is currently increasing at a fast rate.”
WOW! That means our EOM Web site ranks among the top 0.2 percent of sites according to our Alexa.com ranking. (no, not the Amazon speaker system).
As we get more and more and more connected around the world, website will gradually increase. The internet will get faster and more websites will be accessible than ever before. The real concern is how many of the website are legit websites and are not scam or bots playing tricks to consumers or users to divert traffic on their site. I was surprised that instead of going up, 2019 declined, is it because some of them was fake sites? But my statement still stays strong that website will keep on increasing at least 2.1 billion as more developing nation are transitioning to internet business and catch potential customers by using websites.
This is insane! I assumed it was a lot but did not guess it was that much. All I can think about is how hard it must be to get the domain name you want for a company or brands website…nearly impossible. I can only believe that this number is going to continue to increase as time goes on. The more developed areas become and the more new businesses enter the market, the higher this number will be.
Really interesting thing but not too surprised our mind, as internet becoming an impartible part of our modern life, it booming in an unbelievable number is natural resolute. And there are two things which are jumping in my mind, one is, seems that when the internet just became booming, the famous website most are searching engine like Yahoo and Google, and after people came into internet era, the famous websites are social media like facebook and Instagram; Second thing is, even there are huge numbers of websites, but, how many of them are really useful and be frequently used by people? Seems that most of them are not so necessary and functional.
No wonder that we are in the era of Internet of Things, world wide web somehow connects the whole world with each other, more closely as time passes by to some degree. I do not think I can dwell on without internet because it provides me with almost every piece of information that I need under different situations. I firmly believe more and more websites will emerge, since the segment market is incredibly huge and there can always be a demand that is waiting to be fulfilled. I think Tim Berners-Lee may be surprised by what he has created for the world.
