I graduated from Hofstra with two degrees in 1962, so it is very unlikely that I will be searching for a job. However, I operate a very successful resume writing and career coaching business. Although I am based in Milwaukee, the clientele is international. There is free advice on my website: http://www.appelbaumresumes.com.

It was very telling and interesting to see the differing perspectives from job seekers and employers regarding what the latter values when hiring prospective candidates. Job seekers seemed to undervalue the worth of a global outlook, while overvaluing a strong base work ethic.

I found the article, A Job Skills Info graphic, is very helpful. It helps me because i have an interview coming up and this shows me what skills are most preferred by employers. These charts map out the importance of skills needed for jobs. I agree with employers that skills can be learned. Skills can be learned through experience and practice. Now that i know the preferred skills, i will work harder in those areas.
