World’s Most Chosen Brands by Number of Purchases

As Felix Richter reports for Statista:

“According to the 2019 edition of Kantar’s Brand Footprint reportCoca-Cola remains the most chosen FMCG brand in the world for the seventh year running. The report measures how often consumers choose an item from a particular brand. And Coca-Cola’s products were picked from the shelves 5.97 billion times last year. Thereby, reaching more than 40 percent of households around the world.” [Note: FMCG means Fast-Moving Consumer Goods.]  

“The following chart shows the world’s most popular consumer brands. Based on consumer reach points, a metric that measures how many households around the world are buying a brand. As well as how often, providing a good representation of global shopper choice.”

Furthermore, according to Kantar’s 2019 Brand Footprint report: 17 global brands were chosen from the shelves over one billion times in 2018. They represent a ‘billionaire club.’ Along with 14 local brands from China and India. Local brands saw an increase in the number of times they are chosen by consumers. Their share rose to 64.8% versus global brands’ 35.2%. Coca-Cola remains the world’s most chosen brand — for the seventh year running. Colgate is the second most-chosen brand globally. And the only brand picked by more than half of all global households — with 60.5% penetration globally. Vim cleaning products were the fastest-growing Top 50 brand.”
