Please! We Must Remember the Lyrics of America the Beautiful
The original version of America the Beautiful uses lyrics written by Katharine Lee Bates. With the music composed by church organist and choirmaster Samuel A. Ward. It was first performed at Grace Episcopal Church in Newark, New Jersey. Incredibly, the two never met. Ward’s music combined with the Bates poem was first published in 1910.

Our personal favorite version of the song is by Ray Charles. And he recorded it numerous times. Below, we highlight his rendition from the Dick Cavett show in 1972.
