As Microsoft announced that it would soon be introducing its own tablet, the Surface, to compete with the iPad and Droid-driven devices, four questions come to mind:
- Can Microsoft be successful after so many missteps with other products?
- Can Microsoft be a hardware manufacturer after so many years as a software-driven company? The entertainment-oriented X-Box is the only current major hardware product it offers.
- Will app developers be attracted to the Surface? This is a key attraction for users.
- Will its partner companies for Microsoft software be upset about the Surface; and if yes, how will they react?
