This year, the Rolling Stones marked their 50th anniversary as a rock band. It was recently announced that they would be performing 4 shows later this year, including 2 at Brooklyn’s new Barclays Center, the home of the NBA’s Brooklyn (formerly New Jersey) Nets.
In a recent story, Businessweek ‘s John Lopez compiled an interesting set of facts on the legendary band. Here are some of them:
- The group has sold 200 million albums worldwide, including 42 albums reaching “gold” status, 28 reaching “platinum” status, 12 reaching “multi-platinum” status, and 1 reaching “diamond” status (10 million+ albums sold).
- During the past 23 years (since their induction into the Rock Hall of Fame), the Rolling Stones’ tours have generated a total attendance of 25 million fans.
- The 2005-2007 Bigger Bang Tour grossed $558 million.
- As of August 2012, the average of the current Rolling Stones was 68.75.
