Updating/Redesigning Logos: Is the Time Right?

We have written before about the importance of company brands and logos, and how firms use these designs in their marketing strategies. See, for example, “Does Rebranding Always Work?“and “The Hidden Meanings of Iconic Brands“.

Consider these observations from Logo Design Services:

“Do you want to change the way people look at your business? Do you want them to recall your brand better? Or you simply want to change certain things, such as a logo, for your new business image this year? Well, you are not alone; in fact, some world brands have already started. A revised or updated logo may be appropriate to adapt to new business trends, which the old logo might not be able to translate. An old logo, just like a kitchen or any parts of a home, may be requiring renovation for better business look.”

“A logo revision may also be done for improving public recall of the brand, with a symbol or a logo that will be better understood and remembered by people when they find such in stores, on Web sites and in any other place where your company is promoting your products or services.”

“If we surf the Internet, visit different logo design contests, we might form in our heads one picture — in order to succeed in 2015 you have to make your logo design as different from others as possible. ‘Uniqueness is the ultimate sophistication,’ ‘Make sure your logo stands out from the rest’ — these slogans seem to dominate the different design magazine now and designers think of new and new ways to impress their customers.”

“If we take a look at the revised logos of famous companies, another idea arises altogether — simplicity is the ultimate sophistication in most cases. Logo has to be understandable to be memorable.”
