As we reported last week, world-class athletes are extremely popular. And they often do more than just make a lot of money. They also work with various charities. For example, NBA players give back in many ways. Around the world. The NBA merely illustrates what athletes in all sports do.

In some cases, negative reporting virtually obscures the good deeds of athletes. We hope this post changes that perspective. [Note: We are not condoning bad behavior by anyone in any way.]

NBA Players Give Back

The National Basketball Association (NBA.com) is one of the most global sports leagues on the globe. Its players have come from countries on every continent. Games are televised and streamed worldwide. As a result, the NBA can — and does — have a great positive impact through many projects. Some projects are sponsored by the league. While others are driven by the players themselves. In whatever forum, NBA players give back!

In fact, the NBA operates a special Web site called NBA Cares:

“NBA Cares is the league’s global social responsibility program that builds on the NBA’s mission of addressing important social issues. And NBA Cares programs and participants have provided more than 4.1 million hours of hands-on service. In addition, NBA Cares created more than 1,115 places where kids and families can live, learn, or play in communities around the world. Also, the NBA engages more than 18 million youth annually, inspiring play and teaching the values of the game.”

“NBA Cares works with internationally recognized youth-serving programs that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes, including: Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Special Olympics, YMCA of the USA, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, UNICEF, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Share Our Strength, and GLSEN.”
