However millennials are defined with regard to age, they now represent the largest population group in the United States — which makes millennials a very attractive target for business.
According to the Pew Research Research Institute:
“Millennials have surpassed Baby Boomers as the nation’s largest living generation, according to population estimates recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Millennials, whom we define as those ages 18-34 in 2015, now number 75.4 million, surpassing the 74.9 million Baby Boomers (ages 51-69). And Generation X (ages 35-50 in 2015) is projected to pass the Boomers in population by 2028.”
“Millennials have grown up in an electronics-filled and increasingly online and socially-networked world. They are the generation that has received the most marketing attention. As the most ethnically diverse generation, Millennials tend to be tolerant of difference. Having been raised under the mantra ‘follow your dreams’ and being told they were special, they tend to be confident. While largely a positive trait, the Millennial generation’s confidence has been argued to spill over into the realms of entitlement and narcissism. They are often seen as slightly more optimistic about the future of America than other generations — despite the fact that they are the first generation since the Silent Generation that is expected to be less economically successful than their parents.”

The last baby boomers happened after World War 2. All soldiers came back home and then created baby. It is a new generation. There is no big war around the world. Baby who born at now has more opportunities. They can do things they like. They can marry anyone ignoring sex, age, country. They will born in a good times that they won’t suffer a lot negative thins from outside. They also need to be tolerate because the world is changeable and they need do more by themselves instead of inheriting from their family.
Millennial’s are really a strange generation. The article mentions that Millennial’s might be the first generation to live poorer than their parents and I don’t think a lot of us really care about that. We might be self centered, confident, or whatever you want to call it, but in the end a lot of Millennial’s grew up in a time that wasn’t so bad so there’s no desire to want to do better. I think it’s a good step towards raising kids to be happy with what the have and not selfish, money hungry, jerks.
Millennials are completely different from all other generations due to the constant technological advancement we were brought up with. But I would have to disagree when they say we are expected to be less economically successful. I think due to our current situation with technology and eagerness to constantly improve it, we will be more successful. Also our generation is more positive and have more positive, confident, and will do anything to reach for our dreams and goals. The priority for majority of us has changed and our thoughts on the traditions has changes as well. For example, as mentioned in the video, millennials aren’t in a rush to get married, have a family, and buy a big house. Hopefully, I am right and we do become successful and also be able to pay off the debt.
I thought this article was actually really interesting. I actually talking about being a millennial in my public relations class as well as in my public speaking class and I came to the conclusion that us millennials are really not all what people say about them. Times are changing, the world is changing, and with the technology changes and people ultimately have to start getting used to these changes. As for being less successful than our parents, who is really one to determine how successful one might be in the future?
Priorities for millennials are different than for our predecessors in that they were motivated by the need to make a better living and they now motivate us to follow our dreams because they worked hard so that we could have this opportunity. The criticism that we are more entitled than previous generations holds some truth in that we are much more comfortable than people used to be and we mature later in our lives. People that came before us had built families by our age and now we are held to a new standard which is no standard at all you can be whoever you desire to be. I do think that because of the era we were brought up in we are much more technologically savvy and this is one of the reasons that the article above states we receive the most marketing attention. Because more and more people are pursuing higher degrees of education what confuses me is the prediction of us being less economically successful as the two do not correlate.
It is interesting to see this article talk about the different generational eras in the United States. The millennials are certainly a different generation than the others, because our era is very immersed in technologies. In addition, technologies in the millennial generation have an huge effect on they way we think and grow economically, I do not agree that the millennial generation will be worse off, than their parents generation economically. We live in a very technological innovate society and new industries are being established such as solar energy, that can make potential markets that the millennials can come in. Furthermore, millennials are continue to pursue higher degrees of education than any other generation before it.
I disagree with the video in the sense that, no one can determine whether millennials were successful or not, especially not yet. Millennials still have time to be able to change what future might bring. One of the reasons why I even brought the future up is because of the advancements in technology that has been happening. As technology develops more and advances more, people have more chance to develop, create or come up with something that one might not see it in the future yet, which will prove in many ways that millennials do have a chance and just a video or something else does not prove or determine in set image that they did not do too well. Also, as the article mentioned millennials might only live worse than their parents, because of their own selves. It’s how they decide to go about what they will accomplish and it is up to them what to change. But, the problem is that not many people get bothered by it. That’s the reason why it has been mentioned as pre-determined, but that can easily be changed, if needed or wanted to be.
This article is very interesting because I did not know that the Millenial population has surpassed the baby boomer generation. Also, I agree that as millenials we were told to “follow our dreams”, which has led to a more optimistic look for the future.
The lucky few generation made a very successful economic atmosphere back in those days, and the I feel like millennials is a unique generation. They are and they will be the strong power of the economy. They are very independent and they have very high level education background, they have been told to follow their heart, and they are doing in this way right now. They are making the culture and style right now.
I actually didn’t hear the term “millennials” until Bernie Sanders had his big support coming from them. Still, it’s an interesting group of people because we were born in an era where technology was advancing at a rapid rate and contributed to our upbringings. I also find it kind of crazy that the millennials surpassed the Baby Boomer era. That is pretty remarkable, as far as numbers go.
I found this article to be very interesting especially because I always hear about the generation of the Baby Boomers. Growing up in this generation is definitely different from the generation of my parents. Sometimes during conversation my parents and I have different viewpoints on certain which can be accounted for the generation. The Millennial Generation grew up with technology and the all the advances it made, something the other generation didn’t have. One frightening fact was when the article said this generation is expected to make less than their parents.
This article was very interesting to me. Before reading this, I didn’t really know what being a “millennial” meant. While it is true that we live life differently than past generations, we still share an objective, which is to be successful and do better than our parents. The job market isn’t at its best right now, it continues to grow. With millennial’s experience and familiarity with modern technology, I think we’ll make out just fine.
Millennials are a generation which immensely differ from other ones because they grew up in a time without all of this technology as they they got older they were able to adapt and learn technology and become efficient with it. Aside from that there are so many millenials whom all lived such different lives compared to the generations before millenials and after.
