No surprise: The best source for companies to acquire data on consumers is the Web.

As eMarketer notes: “Marketers worldwide are continuing to invest in making sense of the surge of data produced by digital interactions with customers—68% said they will increase data-related marketing spending in 2013 and just 3% planned to decrease spending, according to a study by Infogroup Targeting Solutions and Yesmail Interactive.”

10 Replies to “Where Companies Get Their Consumer Data”

  1. It makes total sense that a company gets all of their marketing campaigns accomplished through social media. Most people have Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites that allow customers to interact with their company have choice. Social media is the easiest campaign of all. It must be cheaper in terms of supplies needed and information is easily accessed by the users.

  2. It should come as no surprise that companies today, more than ever, are turning to the web to advertise their products. Both young and old are surfing the web constantly and are therefore constant targets for advertising. Some people even watch TV on the internet and therefore, the internet would be one of the only ways to get an advertisement campaign across. In my opinion, this trend will continue as the internet gets more and more popular with every day that goes by.

  3. This trend in marketing is no surprise to me. Viral marketing and web based marketing has become more and more a viable avenue for marketers to get there products name out there. With things like Kickstarter and blogs, whole companies are even starting online alone or working entirely off ad revenue. Since many companies only source of revenue is ads (ie: Facebook) it is smart for marketers to make deals with these highly visited sites so people see their product everytime they go visit these sites, which is sometimes over 6 times a day.

  4. Viral marketing and web based marketing has become more and more a viable avenue for marketers to get there products name out there and its becoming successful

  5. Digital interaction is one of the most important forms of interaction in society today. With almost everyone being active on the internet daily, weekly, or even monthly, companies can compile all different types of data based upon how users behave and act in the online world. Their frequent behaviors are studied, as well as predictions as to what may possibly happen in the near/far future.

  6. The trend in our society today is to do as much as we can can through a computer or a smart device such as a tablet or a phone. Why? Because it’s so simple. You can do it from the comfort of your home, or from anywhere in the world without having to be physically present. Therefore, advertising online through social media, fun websites or an online catalog truly is one of the best ways to advertise. A lot of people even prefer to read online the news, magazines, books, etc. This trend also has the great advantage of being green friendly. It seems this percentage of successful online marketing is only going to keep increasing.

  7. It’s not unusual for e-marketing to become more prevalent in consumers’ time spent online. The fact that website analytics was the leading source for generating data on customers worldwide is completely fitting for 2012, so why aren’t more companies on the bandwagon? A 41% increase over direct mail interaction shows how much technology and marketing strategies have advanced in the last decade. So it makes me wonder, what will some of the cons be of this digital interaction? And when will we realize it?

  8. It seems the more time people spend on the Internet, the more information marketers can get through social media or website analytics. Companies should be taking advantage of all the information at their fingertips. It seems that people are more willing to answer questions or research companies because it’s quick and easy on the computer. As much as companies might not want to, they need to start marketing themselves on the internet as much as possible, otherwise their name and product will not be as widely known. As the times change, so do the methods of communication between corporations and their clients. Companies should be willing to change right along with them.

  9. We are in a technological society where mostly all company’s get their consumer data sources off the web. Digital interaction is probably the best technique for company’s to market campaigns and view trends of the consumers worldwide. Social media websites such as Facebook and twitter make it a fast, easy and inexpensive way for company’s to get info and generate communication amongst consumers.
